Shackles

In the night is when they both would come together.

A metal and a nonmetal forming a bond,

she took from him what she needed to make her whole.

Although this made him seem complete,

he felt that there was something missing.

In her arms was a spark that needed a light,

but within him was a void that would not ignite.

The shackles she placed on him kept him grounded,

until he discovered his heart contained the key.

One morning he took them off and looked her in the eye.

To love someone else you must love yourself;

her happiness ended when he was leaving,

while his was finally beginning.
